Two bachelor programmes change names

Music Production and Composition are the new names for Sound Technology and Songwriting at RMC.

With effect from the upcoming academic year, Rhythmic Music Conservatory is adjusting and renaming two of its bachelor programmes. Sound Technology will be named Music Production and Songwriting will be Composition.
"The new names are a better representation of the skills our students brings to develop further during their education. And the names also entail a more contemporary reflection of the current job market and the needs in the art and culture world. The namechanges do not mean that we are completely changing the programmes, but is rather a precision supporting RMC's vision of being among the leading educational institutions in contemporary rhythmic music," says principal Henrik Sveidahl.
THE SOUND TECHNICIAN AS CO-CREATOR
With the Music Production programme, RMC trains music producers and sound technicians who create and realise music in collaboration with an artist or a band, typically in the studio or at a concert. The previous name of the programme rang of a time where the sound technician primarily had to solve a service- and trade-oriented assignment, whereas now it is expected that the producer plays an artistic and creative part.
"Especially within the livescene, music production is developing these years from a supporting craftmanship to a more co-creating proces where the sound technician 'joins the band', so to speak, and is part of developing the artistic expression. With this namechange we are also making it clearer that the education in Music Production also embraces for example tracks-producers interested in workning with other artists' expressions," explains head of programme Morten Büchert.
Music without words as well
At Composition RMC trains songwriters and other composers based on their own artistic visions. With the new adjustment, this education now encompasses two special subject areas: Composition, with emphasis on among other things orchestration, arrangement, and programming, and Songwriting, with emphasis on among other things writing lyrics.
"Songwriting is not going to be weakened in the programme, but we are closing a gap with an offer for rhythmic composers writing music without lyrics. That could, for instance, be electronic composers or bandleaders writing scores for ensembles and big bands," says head of programme Anders P. Jensen.
APPLY Before december
The changes are effective with the acceptance of the new students starting their educations in the academic year 2016/2017.
The application deadline for being accepted among the first renamed years at Music Production and Composition (as well as RMC's other bachelor programmes, Music Performance and Music Management) is 1 December 2015 at 12:00 CET - read more here.
