FAQ's: bachelor in Song Writing (SW)

How do I best present myself on the demo cd that I enclose with the application?

You must include 4-5 songs that will give an exact picture of your artistic profile.

In other words, you should present yourself in the way you want us to see you.

Must the songs I submit represent various styles?

No, not necessarily.

Does the material have to be written in Danish?

Your songs may be written in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian or English. Other languages will not be considered.

Does the demo cd have to be a professionally produced product?

Not necessarily. You may also submit a cd with songs that have just been recorded with one mike.

Do I have to sing and/or perform on the demo cd myself?

Not necessarily. We will assess your abilities as a song writer, not as a singer/performer.

Do I need to be able to play an instrument in order to apply for the Song Writing programme?

Not necessarily. Applicants who e.g. write music on a computer are also welcome.

Is it possible to arrange a personal meeting with a study advisor before I submit my application?

You will find a lot of the information you need by studying our website carefully.

Is it possible to have the application material sent to me by post?

No, the application material is only available on the coordinated website of the Danish Academies of Music: www.musikuddannelser.dk.

Which forms of documentation must be enclosed with the application?

You must enclose a cd with 4-5 songs written by yourself - preferrably with the lyrics attached - as well as documentation for payment of the application fee (copy of your receipt of payment).

The application, including enclosures, must be submitted in 5 copies. You are allowed to staple the pages of your application together.

How many applicants are admitted to the programme?

Normally six students are admitted each year.

Is there an age limit for the applicants to the programme?

The conservatory does not operate with an age limit for the applicants, but the age criterion will of course play a part when selecting the candidates for the SW class.

Does my application have to be written in Danish?

Yes, but applications written in Norwegian and Swedish will also be accepted.

The entrance examination itself is conducted in Danish.

Is it possible to follow the SW programme without speaking and writing Danish?

The primary language of instruction is Danish. In connection with foreign guest teachers or study trips, however, the teaching will typically be conducted in English.

Does the Bachelor in SW entitle me to Danish state educational support?

Yes.

Can I combine the SW study programme with studies abroad?

Yes, it will be possible for you to apply to go to a foreign educational instutition as an exchange student.

Is it possible to work parallel to my studies?

The Bachelor in SW is a full-time study programme which requires a lot of preparation. Therefore, you should only have a limited amount of work activities parallel to your studies.

Are there other further educational programmes in song writing in Denmark?

No.

Are there any plans for establishing a Master in Song Writing?

At present, RMC has no plans for establishing a Master programme in Song Writing.
