FAQ's: bachelor in Music Performance (MP)What are the requirements for being accepted to the Bachelor programme in Music Performance?
There is an intense competition for the student places at Rhythmic Music Conservatory, which means that you must have a personal artistic voice and possess a wide range of musical and instrumental skills, in order to be considered for a place.
We expect a lot from our applicants at the entrance examination, and also from our students, and it requires a high level of commitment and independence to be a student at RMC.
You do not need to have a specific educational background in order to apply – applicants for the Bachelor programme in Music Performance at RMC are assessed exclusively on the basis of their entrance examination results.

Are the Bachelor programme in Music Performance full-time studies?
Yes, and attendance to the classes is compulsory. You should therefore not expect to be able to maintain an active career parallel to your studies.
However, there are lots of opportunities for you to explore and nourish your own creativity at RMC.

Do the Bachelor programme entitle me to Danish state educational support?
Yes, all the study programmes at RMC entitle the students to state educational support.

Is the teaching exclusively conducted in Danish?
Yes, and we expect that our foreign students learn Danish, so that they may get the full benefit of the courses as soon as possible.
If necessary, we can assist you in finding relevant intensive language courses.

What are the tuition fees at RMC?
There are no tuition fees at RMC.

How many times per year does RMC admit new students?
RMC admits new students once every year.
The entrance examinations for the Bachelor programme in MP are held in January and February, with a view to beginning studies in August of the next academic year.

How many applicants are there for RMC’s Bachelor programme in Music Performance?
In recent years, there has been an average of 210 applicants each year to RMC’s Bachelor programmes.

How many of the applicants are admitted to RMC’s Bachelor programmes?
Over the last couple of years, there has been an average intake of 30 new students to RMC’s Bachelor programmes in music each year. ______________________________________________________
What instruments do the applicants to RMC’s Bachelor programmes play? - Approx. 25% of the applicants are drummers.
- Approx. 10% of the applicants are bass players.
- Approx. 10% of the applicants are pianists.
- Approx. 15% of the applicants are guitarists.
- Approx. 30% of the applicants are vocalists.
- Approx. 8% of the applicants play wind instruments.
- Approx. 2% of the applicants play other instruments.

You can read about the programmes and admission requirements on our website: www.rmc.dk.
To apply, you need to fill in an online application form on www.musikuddannelser.dk, after which you must print out the completed form and send it to RMC, including the relevant enclosures.

Do I need to turn up for the entrance examination in person, or is it enough to send a demo?
All applicants must sit the entrance examination at the conservatory.

Is it possible to apply for several study programmes at RMC simultaneously?
Yes.

Is it possible to apply to several music conservatories simultaneously?
Yes, the entrance examinations for a number of the Bachelor programmes in contemporary music at the Danish academies of music are coordinated.
It is possible to apply for admission to up to three different conservatories simultaneously.

How many times can I sign up for the entrance examination for the Bachelor programme in Music Performance?
There is no limit as to how many times you may sign up for the entrance examination.

Is there an age limit for the applicants to the Bachelor programme in Music Performance?
There is no age limit for the applicants to RMC.

Is it possible to have examples of previous exam questions from the entrance examination sent to me?
No.

Do I have to bring my own accompanists for the entrance examination?
Yes, you need to bring your own group for the concert audition at the entrance examination.
If this is not possible, we can refer you to relevant RMC students who may assist you with the comping. Please contact RMC’s study coordinator for more information. Please note that it is your own responsibility to contact the student accompanists, and that any fees for comping at the concert audition must be paid by you.

Can I choose what material I want to play for the audition?
At the entrance examination, it is up to you to choose what you want to play (you can read more in the descriptions of the indivial tests on the website).
RMC recommends that applicants choose a musical framework and a degree of difficulty that they feel comfortable with.
The conservatory has no preferences with regard to specific styles or genres within contemporary music.

Is it possible to take the entrance examination, if you don’t speak Danish?
Yes, but in some cases it may lead to comprehension problems, as the instructions – especially in connection with the group tests – will primarily be given in Danish.

How do I prepare for the entrance examination?
Several Danish music schools offer the so-called Musikalsk Grundkursus (MGK), which is an intensive 3-year course preparing students for admission to conservatories.
Anyone aged between 14-25 may sign up for an MGK course.
To be accepted to this course, applicants must pass a preliminary exam.
The teaching on the MGK courses is organized so that the students may follow the classes parallel to other educational activities.
In addition to this, a number of preparatory courses are offered by various day and evening schools. You can obtain more information by contacting the course providers directly. |
